It is a known fact that alcohol does harm to basis, every 1 pregnant woman in 9 drink alcohol. One-third of the cases state that many of these women are involved in binge drinking during their pregnancy. These are the findings from a new research.
The investigators from US Centers for Disease Control & Prevention state that the percentage of pregnant women having alcohol is on the rise. The rate is more than what it has been in a decade. The report is based on a data received between 2015 and 2017. It involves 6,800 women, aged between 18 and 44 years. The report states that in 30 days of time span, the binge drinking rate is 3.9% and regular drinking is 11.5%. This has been reported by Clark Denny and his fellow investigators. Clark is one of the members at the CDC National Center on Birth Defects& Developmental Disabilities. Instead of a decrease, the rate of drinking has increased in pregnant women in the years 2011 to 2013. Denny stated that binge drinking is a matter of concern. Women who opted for binge drinking drank at least 6 glasses at each of these sessions. As checked, there were at least 4.5 such binge drinking sessions on an average in a month.
Denny along with the fellow researchers informed that alcohol in blood is harmful for the brain of the fetus. There has been lot of research in this field. It is a known fact that alcohol can have extreme negative effects on the health of an infant. The issues generally include fetal alcohol spectrum disorder, birth defect linked with the central nervous system, behavioral issues and retarded intellectual development. Drinking alcohol during pregnancy can also lead to miscarriages and still- births.
The study also states that single mothers are prone to drinking during pregnancy than the married ones.
